About the site

This site has two functions, firstly, it hosts our online stress and culture audit, and secondly as an information source for clients, employers and organisations. Compass Scotland have been involved in assisting organisations with the identification and management of employee stress, culture and ethos issues, for over 10 years.

About Stress

Stress is the response to events and circumstances that an individual perceives is impacting negatively upon them. It is generally our response, or lack of response and not the events, that causes the most difficulty for us. We find ourselves in the situation where the events we are experiencing, outstrip our perceived ability to cope with those events. We develop mindsets and behaviours that tend to keep us locked into a feeling of helplessness, we avoid dealing with the situation that faces us, and left unresolved, grows or worsens to the point where we are overwhelmed and feel impotent, exhausted and eventually saturated.

About Workplace Culture

Culture is, quite simply ‘the way we do things around here’ Culture is defined by the atmosphere, the ethos and the style of behaviour from the top to the bottom of the organisation. Positive cultures can emerge in the most difficult of circumstances soldiers for example, and can be wholly negative in the most positive of environments. Culture will define the attitudes and interaction of the workforce, and it will define the determination and enthusiasm of the individual within that workforce. Establishing a positive culture will improve morale, motivation, team collaboration and the collective will to deliver.

About Audits

A stress and culture audit is a process of surveying staff to establish individual’s levels of stress, identify hotspots within an organisation, and assess staff attitudes to the organisaiton, management, colleagues and staff. You can find out more here
